Variety description

The 'Nero' chokeberry is the classic among chokeberries and is well known in the industry. As a shrub, 'Nero' is quite fast-growing compared to other chokeberries. In comparison to other wild fruit bushes with a maximum of 3m but still comparatively small.

In the spring, just before the leaves emerge, a large number of umbels with many small white flowers appear. The small, dark, black-purple fruits then ripen over the summer. When harvesting, it is important to note that the fruits are not yet ripe after they have changed color from green to black-violet. It will take another 2 weeks for the berries to ripen enough to be harvested. Like all chokeberries, 'Nero' shows a striking and bright fall color in autumn
