Variety description

Morus hybrid 'Zickzack' is a grafted mulberry variety. It grows quite compact and reaches a height of around 3 m over the years. Thanks to the funny zigzag growth, this mulberry is very decorative in the garden. It can also be grown in a container.

As with most mulberries, the young wood of the 'Zickzack' mulberry can freeze back. A little winter protection in the first three years is therefore advisable. Morus 'Zigzag' also likes a sheltered location, for example against a house wall, similar to figs.

The fruits of Morus 'Zickzack' ripen in August. Initially greenish to red, the ripe berries slowly turn to dark purple-black. Ripe fruits look very similar to blackberries; they are very sweet and juicy.
