Variety description

As the variety name of the Saskatoon berry 'Saskalate®' suggests, Saskalate® is a late-ripening Saskatoon berry and is currently the latest variety in our range. Like all Saskatoon berries, Saskalate® is a true four-season plant. In the spring, Saskalate® impresses with its lush blooms, which appear even before the leaves emerge. Shortly after flowering, the first leaves appear in a striking and beautiful copper colour. During the summer, the large blue-purple berries develop, which are eaten by the winged fauna as well as by the gardener who has planted this delicious variety. In autumn, the leaves of Saskalate® glow in all possible shades of yellow, orange and red. And in the winter they are beautiful structuring plants, especially when hoar frost forms on the fine branches or snow gets caught in them. In terms of taste, the Saskatoon berry Saskalate® is a wonderful fruit. It tastes extremely sweet and has no acid at all. If the fruit is not quite ripe, a few “green” flavours can come through, but these are immediately masked by the sweetness.
