Variety description

Passifloras, also called passion flowers or passion vines, are known in this region as non-hardy pot plants. There are fruit-bearing varieties, Passiflora edulis, which also thrive in our region - but only as pot plants during the summer season...

Cooltropics® 'Eia Popeia'®, on the other hand, is the first offshoot of a new Passiflora series that behaves like classic perennials: the plants sprout again from the rootstock in May and are therefore hardy to around -15°C. Well established, the plants can even manage a little more. In May, Cooltropics® 'Eia Popeia'® sprouts quickly and vigorously, forms many, beautifully blue-violet flowers on the long annual shoots from June to September, from which egg-sized, oval fruits develop until autumn. The fruits are ripe when they turn yellow, the flesh is then sweet and sour with the typical passion fruit flavour. Cooltropics® 'Eia Popeia'® needs a trellis. In late autumn, simply cut back the above-ground part to 10 cm. Light winter protection, for example with brushwood, is recommended.
