Fact sheet

Growth: heat-loving plant with average yields of about 150 nuts per plant; can still be planted in early June; Harvested when 50% of the foliage has died

Ripeness/Harvest: from mid-September, when most (+ 50%) of the foliage has turned brown

Fruits: large pods with an average of 2 nuts; the nuts are dark red to almost black in colour

Taste: fresh, dried or roasted edible; the drier the fruit, the nuttier it tastes

Variety description

'JustBlack'® is a peanut selection with a very dark skin in which the nuts or kernels are wrapped. This is very untypical because we only know the classic peanuts with a brown-red skin when the pod is removed. The fruits are medium-sized and almost always sit in pairs in a pod. The average harvest is 70-90 pods, which corresponds to about 150 nuts.

A special and very interesting characteristic of 'JustBlack'® for cultivation in our region is that the variety obviously copes particularly well with relatively humid weather. 'JustBlack'® thus stays green much longer in rainy years and thus assimilates longer, which has a clearly positive influence on the yield.
