Variety description

Direttissima® 'Montblanc'® is – as the family name suggests – directly bearing. This means that the blackberry will flower and bear berries on the annual canes. A disadvantage of direct producers has been that they ripen relatively late. However, Direttissima® 'Montblanc'® is currently the earliest known autumn blackberry and is ready to be picked from the beginning of August.
Direttissima® 'Montblanc'® grows upright and is 150 - 200 cm high. The variety should be tied to a scaffold or pole. The shrub grows more stably if the young shoots are topped in May at a height of about 50 cm. This creates more side shoots, the bush becomes bushier and, above all, more flowers and fruits form. Worn rods are not cut back in late autumn but only at the beginning of March, to a height of 15 - 20 cm.
