Variety description

Saskablue' is the leading commercial variety in Canada. This is mainly due to the fact that it already produces yields from the 2nd year of growth and that it also produces the highest yields of all Saskatoon berries. The fruits are not quite as large as those of the varieties 'Martin' or 'Thiessen', but they are very sweet. Due to the early onset of yield, 'Saskablue' grows more slowly; the strength goes mainly into the fruit. Saskatoon berries are generally not very demanding on the soil. They are flat rooted. The variety 'Saskablue' has a slight tendency to form stolons. Especially at the flowering time in April/May, all saskatoon berries shine with their white, cloud-like flowers as dreamlike ornamental shrubs.
