Variety description

Passifloras, also called passion flowers or passion vines, are known in this region as non-hardy pot plants. There are fruit-bearing varieties, Passiflora edulis, which also thrive in our region - but only as pot plants during the summer season...

With Cooltropics® 'Snowstar®' we are launching the second variety of the Cooltropics® family. Just like the blue-violet flowering 'Eia Popeia®', Cooltropics® 'Snowstar®' also convinces with an extraordinary winter hardiness, which is unusual for passion flowers/passion fruit. After late budding at the end of May to the beginning of June, the plant is well protected from late frosts. Cooltropics® 'Snowstar®' quickly grows to a considerable size and can be used as an exotic flowering and fruit-bearing screen in the summer. The first beautiful, pure white flowers appear as early as the middle/end of June. From these blossoms, the tasty and aromatic fruits form until September, provided that there is sufficient fertilisation by a second variety. When the fruits turn from a strong grassy green to a greenish yellow, the fruits are ripe and can be harvested.

Towards winter, the above-ground parts of the plant die back and Cooltropics® 'Snowstar®' overwinters in the ground like a perennial or hop plant.
