Variety description

The 'White Dune' sea kale is the gourmet sea kale. It starts to sprout earlier in the spring and makes slightly thicker shoots, which predestines it for etiolation. To do this, put a black pot over the root ball, which creates a greenhouse effect underneath. But since there is hardly any light, the young shoots sprout pale like asparagus from the soil. These etiolated shoots can be cooked like asparagus and taste sweet with a mild cabbage flavour.

As with the other sea kale varieties, leaves, broccoli and opened flowers can of course also be used for the 'White Dune' sea kale. However, 'White Dune' grows somewhat less vigorously, reaching around 60 cm in height when fully grown. To ensure that the plant grows sufficiently vegetatively in the first year, the flowering plants should be removed early. Harvesting is only possible from the 2nd year of growth. The life expectancy is around 6 - 10 years, as with the other sea kale varieties.
