Variety description

The evergreen kale Everkale® ‘Palmlilly®’ is an extraordinary tree kale variety. Everkale® ‘Palmlilly®’ is particularly interesting during the winter months. This is because, with the first cold nights of autumn, the frilly kale-like leaves begin to turn a dark purple. The pink leaf veins provide a striking contrast. Over the summer, the palm-like leaves have a rich dark green to green-blue colour. In terms of flavour, Everkale® ‘Palmlilly®’ has an intense cabbage aroma with subtle greenish notes and a delicate hint of bitterness on the finish. 

There are two main harvest windows for tree kale: one in early summer, when the plants are actively growing, and a second in autumn/winter. Due to the cold temperatures over winter, the leaves generally taste slightly milder and sweeter.

As a plant, Everkale® ‘Palmlilly®’ grows vigorously and upright. Everkale® ‘Palmlilly®’ can reach a height of up to 120 cm. In terms of growth habit and appearance, Everkale® ‘Palmlilly®’ closely resembles a palm kale.
