Variety description

The sweet potato 'Beauregard' is the classic among sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes, botanically called Ipomoea batatas, are closely related to the purple morning glories (Ipomoea purpurea), which are popular annual climbers in the bedding and balcony plant assortment. Sweet potatoes, on the other hand, rarely flower and their flowers are much smaller and more inconspicuous. The sweet potato is a very important crop, especially in South America, but also in Asia. There are also ornamental varieties that only form small tubers and are used as foliage ornamentals.

Strictly speaking, the sweet potato is a bindweed. It loves light and warmth as well as water and fertiliser. 'Beauregard' is strong growing and quickly covers the ground with its long shoots and dark green foliage. The orange-yellow flesh is very attractive. It has a nutty-sweet aroma. Watch out, mice love sweet potatoes too.
