Variety description

'Buddy Blue' is the latest of the cultivated blueberries. It is not a classic higbush but a rabbiteye hybrid. A second variety as a pollinator is recommended for good, consistent yields, although they often produce decent yields without a pollinator. The 'Pink Lemonade', which is also late, is particularly suitable as a pollinator, as both varieties benefit and produce significantly more fruit. The 'Buddy Blue' ripening period begins in September, it is very conclusive and lasts until mid-October depending on the location. This variety extends the harvest window for cultivated blueberries by a good month. The berries ripen on dense clusters, they are medium to large, aromatic and have a slightly higher acidity than the varieties that ripen in summer.
'Buddy Blue' is semi-evergreen but still hardy. In cold winters, however, it almost completely loses its beautiful foliage. If there is a risk of late frost, the plant should be temporarily protected with fleece.
