Variety description

Columbia Star' is a remarkable bramble. The variety known as hedge blackberry can be raised like a hedge. But you definitely need scaffolding. The shoots are up to 3 m long and relatively thin. The new shoots are very pliable and are tied flat on the lowest wire in summer while the previous year's shoots bear fruit higher up. After harvesting, the worn canes are cut about 10 cm above the ground. The new shoots are only pulled onto the upper wires in spring. This makes it easier to protect them from severe frost, especially in cool regions. In contrast to the other blackberries, this blackberry is 'only' hardy to around -12°C.

'Columbia Star' delivers enormous yields of around 5 - 7 kg of berries per plant from the 3rd year. The fruits are also very large and long, but the individual fruits are much smaller, which gives the fruits a slightly different appearance. The harvest begins in mid-July and is very concentrated.
