Variety description

The mulberry 'Illinois Everbearing' is a vigorous tree that grows 4 - 5 m tall without pruning and has overhanging, strong long shoots. The foliage is very large, oval and forms a lush canopy. The self-fertile, robust tree is hardy. However, young wood can freeze back. It therefore makes sense to give the tree some winter protection during the first three years. The first yields can be expected from the 2nd or 3rd year of growth. After a few years, 'Illinois Everbearing' delivers constant harvests. This is also the case with vigorous winter pruning, which is indicated if one wants to grow the tree a little more compact. The fruits ripen from July onwards, so that you can harvest continuously over a long period of 2 - 3 months. With the mulberry 'Illinois Everbearing' you virtually pick blackberries from the tree. The fruits are up to 4 cm long, first red, then dark purple to black and very juicy - almost like blackberries.
