Variety description

The Arctic raspberry 'Marika' is a low-growing ground cover with a final height of only 30 cm. This deciduous, perennial relative of the native raspberry originally comes from the arctic regions of Europe and Asia, but also thrives in Central Europe. An ideal location for the field berry 'Marika' is full sun to partial shade, humus-rich, slightly acidic, and not too dry. It also grows well as underplanting in a bog garden, although a bog garden is not essential.

From mid-May, striking pink blossoms appear on the short shoots. If a suitable pollinator is nearby – a second variety is essential for a fruit yield – small, dark red berries ripen from the blossoms starting in June. The berries of the 'Marika' wild berry are very aromatic and taste wonderfully sweet. Due to the wild berry's strong remontant nature, blossoms and berries are present on the plants simultaneously throughout the summer. The combination of pink blossoms and dark red berries against fresh green foliage creates a truly impressive display.
