Variety description

The 'Pogauner' is a local wild plum selection (bot.: Prunus domestica supsp. Insititia) from Franconian Switzerland and a real rarity in our wild fruit range. The 'Pogauner' grows as a large shrub or small tree, is densely branched and has small thorns on the shoots. The fruits, which are similar to plums in fruit shape, core shape and taste, ripen in August, but are significantly smaller than plums. In Franconian Switzerland and the neighboring regions, the 'Pogauner' is mainly cultivated as a burnt fruit and processed accordingly.
In addition, the 'Pogauner' is a valuable tree for natural gardens. Due to the dense growth, the plants offer various birds and insects a good shelter. And due to the early flowering in April and the fruits in late summer, the 'Pogauner' is also a very good nutritious tree for a large number of different animal species.
