Variety description

The OpenSky® ‘Speedy Gonzales®’ outdoor pepper is one of the fastest-maturing outdoor peppers in our range. OpenSky® ‘Speedy Gonzales®’ was bred specifically for the conditions of unprotected outdoor cultivation, where early maturity is essential. OpenSky® ‘Speedy Gonzales®’ is a slightly hot (heat level: 3 out of 10), broad-bodied pointed pepper with the characteristic curved tip typical of the variety. The fruits of OpenSky® ‘Speedy Gonzales®’ ripen from green to dark red and can be harvested as soon as the colour change begins. OpenSky® ‘Speedy Gonzales®’ has a pleasantly sweet flavour with a good paprika aroma and a slight heat – the riper the fruit, the more pronounced the heat.

As a plant, OpenSky® ‘Speedy Gonzales®’ grows upright and sturdy. When grown outdoors, a stake is not required. If planted in late May/early June, the first nearly ripe fruits can be harvested as early as mid-July.
