Variety description

The Arctic raspberry 'Tarja' is a low-growing and ground covering plant, reaching a final height of only about 25 cm. This deciduous, perennial relative of the native raspberry originates from the arctic regions of Europe and Asia, but thrives in Central Europe as well. An ideal location for 'Tarja' ground cover is sunny to partially shaded, with humus-rich, slightly acidic soil that is not too dry. It also does well as underplanting in a bog garden. However, a bog garden is not essential; a slightly moist corner of the garden is equally suitable.

In May, the first striking pink blossoms appear on the field strawberry 'Tarja'. The first ripe fruits develop from these blossoms by June. The fruits are typical "rubus-like" aggregate fruits and shine in a dark red hue. For fruit production, the field strawberry 'Tarja' requires a pollinator; any other field strawberry variety is suitable. The only important thing is that it is a different variety. The fruits of the field strawberry 'Tarja' are highly aromatic and have a pleasantly balanced sweet-tart flavor.
