Variety description

The Thanksgiver® ‘Purple’ sweet potato variety is a high-yielding variety with purple flesh. The large tubers of Thanksgiver® ‘Purple’ have - as is typical for purple-fleshed varieties - a purple-red skin and strikingly deep-purple flesh. When cooked, Thanksgiver® ‘Purple’ has a floury-creamy consistency that isn’t overly melt-in-your-mouth. In terms of flavor, Thanksgiver® ‘Purple’ is less sweet than the purple variety from the Sugaroot® series. Additionally, Thanksgiver® ‘Purple’ offers distinct floral notes and hints of dark chocolate.

As a plant, Thanksgiver® ‘Purple’ is vigorous and trailing, with dark green foliage and reddish new growth.

If planted by the end of May, harvesting can begin in late September. The longer the tubers remain in the ground, the larger they can grow.
