Variety description

Artichokes are large perennials with quite good winter hardiness. However, winter protection using brushwood or straw is highly recommended in our latitudes.
The artichoke 'Vert de Laon' is a very old variety from France. To be precise, it comes from Laon, a small town north-east of Paris. The surrounding area is very agricultural. Already at the beginning of the 19th century, artichokes were cultivated there on a large scale.

The seed-resistant 'Vert de Laon' forms flat-round, turquoise-green flower heads with a thick, fleshy flower base from the 2nd year of growth. If young plants from Lubera Edibles are planted instead of seeds, flowering is also possible with this variety in the first year of growth. The yield is very good. If the flowers are allowed to bloom, you will be amazed at how many insects share the enthusiasm for the extravagant flowers.
